Women’s Union hands out awards

The Vietnam Women’s Union (VNWU) handed out three awards to outstanding women’s groups and seven to individuals for their contributions to society, at a grand ceremony in Hanoi on December 21.

The prestigious prizes were presented at the Vietnam Women 2007 Awards, as an annual event held to encourage women to be creative and contribute to the country’s socio-economic development, union chairman Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa said.

Claiming the prizes were the VNWU Gratitude Fund Unit; a group of women from the University of Technology; and another group from the Institute for Agriculture Planning and Design.


Taking awards for individual contributions were Nguyen Thi Phuong Quang, chairwoman of the Long An Tailoring Export Company’s Management Council; Phan Thi Anh, director of the Vinh Long Food and Foodstuff Company, Tran Thi Ngoc Dep, deputy director of the Can Tho Police and Nguyen Thi Cuc, former deputy head of the Taxation Department and three others.


The VNWU awards were sponsored by Diana Co for the fourth consecutive year with a total VND 1 billion.

The company will continue to fund the union in the coming years, chairman of the management council of Diana Co Do Minh Phu said.
