VWU’s delegation attends the APEC Women in Transportation Forum in Cebu, Philippines, October 8, 2015

The WiT Forum this year was chaired by Ms. Susan Kurland, Assistant Secretary for Aviation and International Affairs, U.S Department of Transportation with the participation of more than 100 participants from 21 APEC economies. Main contents of the Forum consist of: (i) Introduction of the WiT data collection framework, (ii) Best practices in WiT: Efforts of economies in enhancing APEC women’s role in transportation, (iii) Realizing the framework, (iv) Moving WiT towards priorities and commitments, and (v) Discussion for drafting an Action Plan in the coming time.
Speaking at the Forum, VWU Vice – President, Ms. Bui Thi Hoa highlighted benefits that the transportation has brought to the people, including women and their families and pointed out disadvantages for women in the process of transportation’s development. She also emphasized women’s role in transportation and VWU’s activities in encouraging women’s participation in this area as well as in other non-traditional careers and gave recommendations on strengthening international cooperation in order to motivate women’s organizations such as VWU to take part in overseeing gender mainstreaming in transportation system’s planning and developing which helps bring more benefits to women from transportation’s services.
