VWU President Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa meets newly appointed heads of Vietnamese diplomatic missions for 2015 – 2018 term

On the afternoon of June 17th, 2015, the Vietnam Women's Union (VWU) President had a meeting with newly accredited heads of Vietnamese diplomatic missions for the 2015 – 2018 term before their departure for the new task.

Attending the meeting were VWU President Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa, VWU Vice President Nguyen Thi Tuyet, leaders of VWU departments and units, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Dang Minh Khoi - Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to the People’s Republic of China, ambassadors, consuls general of Vietnam for the 2015 – 2018 term and representatives of different press and media agencies.

At the meeting, VWU President Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa updated heads of diplomatic missions o­n the situation of Vietnamese women and VWU key activities, especially those concerning international relations. The VWU currently has relationships with more than 300 organizations in more than 60 countries and territories, cooperates with different domestic agencies and international partners in different areas for women empowerment and gender equality.

The VWU President expected that the diplomats would introduce the image and movements of Vietnamese women, the VWU and its activities to international friends; collect and share with the VWU international experiences and good practices o­n women development and gender equality as well as bridge the VWU with international partners and overseas Vietnamese women to promote its international cooperation and exchange.

In his remarks at the meeting, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Dang Minh Khoi expressed his admiration for the VWU’s recent achievements and shared information about female cadre work in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs which has been paid much attention to by the Ministry for the recent years. Currently, the Ministry has 44/200 key positions held by women, including a female Deputy Minister. The Ministry also gives special care for protecting the rights and interests of overseas Vietnamese women, especially those in countries with a large number of Vietnamese women marrying foreign men like Taiwan, South Korea, China

The Deputy Minster expected that the VWU would promote its international marriage support services in order to protect women from the abuse of illegal mediators; strengthen its trans-border cooperation with partners in neighboring countries to contribute to the state management of migrant female workers.

The two newly appointed female ambassadors (Ambassador Doan Thi Xuan Hien to the Republic of Kazakhstan cum Republic of Georgia and Ambassador Nguyen Thi Hong Oanh to the Republic of Bulgaria cum Republic of Macedonia) happily shared their career development as a result of their continuous efforts and the attention and support of the Party and Government, especially of the Ministry leaders. They hoped that in the time to come, with the development of the IT and social media, the image of Vietnamese women and the VWU would be more quickly introduced to the world.
