VWU merit medal "For the Development of Women in Vietnam" for LDSC Representatives

In the afternoon of August 25th, 2015, at the Center for Women and Development (20 Thuy Khue Str., Hanoi), VWU President Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa conferred the merit medal "For the Development of women in Vietnam" on Mr. Dawn Merrill Gatherum and Mrs. Eloise E Gatherum - Representatives of the Latter-Day Saint Charities (LDSC- an U.S. NGO) in Vietnam.

VWU President appreciated the support by Mr. and Mrs. Gatherum and LDSC for the disabled and the poor in Vietnam. For the last 2 years, LDSC through the VWU has given 680 wheelchairs and 115 walkers to the disabled in 7 provinces of Yen Bai, Tuyen Quang, Thai Nguyen, Bac Kan, Bac Ninh, Ninh Binh and Thanh Hoa. That is a valuable encouragement for the disabled to overcome difficulties in their life. LDSC also supported the building of latrines and water systems for kindergartens, primary schools and medical clinics in Bac Ninh, Hoa Binh and Tuyen Quang provinces with the total value of $US 70,000.

At the meeting with VWU President, Mr. and Mrs. Gatherum expressed their satisfaction of cooperation with the VWU, which they see as their most effective partner. o­n field trips to localities with the VWU staff, they had chance for better understandings of the Vietnamese culture, country and people as well as VWU’s great efforts to support people in the grassroots.
