The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) announced their official logo and slogan for the 2006-10 period last Friday in Hanoi

The new logo and slogan - Vietnam, The Hidden Charm - were selected from more than 1,100 entries.

The new logo and slogan - Vietnam, The Hidden Charm - were selected from more than 1,100 entries, attracting thousands of contestants, both local and foreign, to the four-month-long contest.
The logo and slogan will be used to promote tourism in Vietnam over the next five years.

Tourism is one of the country's strongest industries and it receives a great deal of support from the Government and the general public

In recent years, the sector has made a remarkable contribution to the national budget, created jobs and has helped reduce poverty. It is also considered a main draw for foreign investment in Vietnam.
However, Vietnam has not had a logo and a slogan that has satisfied both local people and visitors.

The present slogan, Welcome to Vietnam, accompanied by a logo of a woman wearing traditional ao dai (long dress), seems plain compared to Uniquely Singapore, Dynamic Korea, Thailand, Happiness on Earth or Malaysia, Truly Asia.

"The new logo and slogan will highlight the diversity of Vietnam's culture, nature and people, confirming Vietnam as an ideal destination," said Vo Thi Thang, Chairwoman of VNAT.

Ms Thang also said that the new logo and slogan will be printed on everyone of the VNAT's publications, products and souvenirs, and will help Vietnam's tourism industry embark on a new period of advertising the country to the world.

The logo and slogan Vietnam, The Hidden Charm were conceived by the Dat Viet Advertising Company who won the first prize with a reward of VND20mil (US$1,300) and a seven-day tour through the country for two people.

"The organisers are surprised by the quality of the new logo and slogan. It was difficult to choose between the many beautiful and meaningful works we received, however, the final work, Vietnam, The Hidden Charm is a worthy one," stated Pham Tu, deputy chairman of VNAT.
He added that the selected logo and slogan accurately reflect tourism in Vietnam, which has many hidden treasures for visitors and tourists to explore

At the ceremony, the organisers also presented two second and two third prizes.
