Vigour of two Women honoured “Capital Outstanding Citizen"

Ms. Ta Thi Ngoc Thanh, former director of SOS Children’s Village and Ms. Do Thuy Ha, President of Dong Da Blind Association, are well-known for their extraordinary efforts to overcome difficulties and make commendable contributions to the society.

Despite of her old age, the love for life and enthusiasm for charity work in Ms. Ta Thi Ngoc Thanh never end. For her, charity work is not o­nly the heart but also the fate. She herself used to be an orphan. Growing up with her relatives’ love and alimentation, she always works hard and wholeheartedly devotes her life to social work as a way to thank life, especially when having the opportunity to work at SOS Children’s Village and do study promotion in Dich Vong Hau ward, Cau Giay district. She has helped many disadvantaged children. She shared “The most important things are your heart, mind and enthusiasm. I want to make my small contribution to society. I am happy to see many disadvantaged children do well in their study. It’s essential to support them materially and spiritually”.

After retirement, she continues her charity work, study promotion and support disadvantaged children at her residential place.

At present, Ms. Thanh gives long-term support to 15 orphaned children and helps 2 other children having fathers working in the remote islands of Vietnam. With her great support, many grown-up children have made efforts to overcome unlucky fates to well perform at universities and colleges. Especially, o­ne is now a doctoral researcher and two have received scholarships to study in the UK and Spain.

from a disease causing blindness at an early age. However, instead of being discouraged and giving up, Ha sought to adapt to new situation. She strived to study hard and became an outstanding student with many achievements, especially in English. Non-stop efforts gave her deserving rewards. In 2000, Thuy Ha was the o­nly blind student to join the English Olympiad by UNESCO for the North part of Vietnam and won the third prize. In 2004, Ha passed the entrance examination and became a student of English Department, Hanoi Open University, where she had an opportunity to study Japanese. In 2005, out of nearly 400 examinees, Ha became the representative of Vietnam to receive a free scholarship to study in Japan o­n leadership skills for people with disabilities in Asia - Pacific.

Working at Dong Da Blind Association, she has made numerous supports to the community such as helping 8 people, of which 4 are disabled, access scholarships to study in Japan; in cooperation with different individuals and organizations opening o­nline Japanese courses for disabled people, free English classes and training courses o­n massage therapy; designing project to support blind students in Nguyen Dinh Chieu School, etc...

With the extraordinary efforts and significant contributions to the society, in 2013, Do Thuy Ha was honored the title "Vietnamese Women’s examples of self-confidence, self-esteem, loyalty and responsibility" by the Vietnam Women's Union and voted as o­ne of the top 10 Capital Outstanding Women by Hanoi Women's Union.
