Vietnamese and Cuban women’s cooperation strengthened

On behalf of the VWU’s leader, Vice-President Nguyen Thi Tuyet received Mrs. Liurka Rodriguez Barrios, Deputy Head of Mission of the Republic of Cuba in Vietnam at VWU’s headquarter on 7th October 2016.

At the meeting, Vice-President Nguyen Thi Tuyet shared the VWU’s activities including: support for women in economic development and poverty reduction; implementation of the campaign of building a family of “5 Without-s and 3 Clean-s” and especially VWU’s role and involvement in developing, proposing and monitoring the implementation of the policies relating to gender equality, women and children.

Mrs. Tuyet congratulated o­n Cuba’s achievements in gender equality and women’s advancement, especially the high ratio of women’s participation in politics (4/17 of politburo members and nearly 50% of the members of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba are women). She also expressed her respect for the friendship between Vietnam and Cuba, especially the traditional cooperation between Vietnam women’s unions and Cuba Women’s Union. The two organizations have shared the same opinions in many international forum. Recently, Cuba Women’s Union has raised their voice to support Vietnam in terms of the East Sea issue at the Congress of the Women’s International Democratic Federation (WIDF) which was organized in Colombia from 14th to 19th September 2016.

Ms. Liurka Rodriguez Barriosexpressed her her happiness in witnessing Vietnam’s progress in gender equality promotion, especially Mrs. Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan’s election as the first woman National Assembly Chair. Ms. Barrios also expressed her sincere thanks to the Vietnamese people and women for their solidarity and support for Cuba during its cause for the national development.

Ms. Barrios conveyed her goodbye to the Vietnam Women’s Union o­n the occasion of ending her 3-year working term in Vietnam and introduced her successor, Mrs. Nancy Coro. With experiences of working in cooperation field, especially with Vietnam, Mrs. Nancy Coro promised to continuously promote the cooperation between the two countries for women’s advancement and strengthening sisterly relationship between women of the two countries in general and two women’s unions in particular.
