Vietnam Women’s Union received the Fair Labor Association, USA

In the afternoon of May 29th 2009, Mrs. Pham Hoai Giang, VWU Presidium member, Head of the International Relations Department welcomed Mrs. HeeWon Brindle-Khym, NGO and Trade Union Coordinator of the Fair Labor Association to visit and work with VWU.

The mission of the Fair Labor Association (FLA) is to combine the efforts of industry, civil society organizations, and colleges and universities to protect workers’ rights and improve working conditions worldwide by promoting adherence to international labor standards.

 

At the meeting, Mrs. HeeWon Brindle-Khym expressed the wish to learn about the activities of Vietnam Women’s Union in general and VWU activities to improve the living conditions of specifically women workers as well as the collaboration between VWU and Trade Union in ensuring rights of women workers.

 

On behalf of the VWU Presidium, Mrs. Pham Hoai Giang shared with Mrs HeeWon the VWU activities that are coordinated with related branches and organizations to supervise and implement State policies to ensure rights and improve living conditions of women workers, especially those immigrating to industrial zones in big cities. Currently, in Ho Chi Minh City, The Central of VWU is directing a pilot model which supports and improves the living conditions for young women including women workers at the industrial zones and women students at universities and colleges.

 

At the end of the meeting, Mrs. HeeWon thanked VWU for her warm hospitality and for providing useful information for the work of her association, especially for the Project “Supporting Vietnam garment and leather” that is going to be funded by the Fair Labor Association. Mrs HeeWon also wished that VWU and Fair Labor Association will have further cooperation in the future when the above project is implemented.
