Vietnam Women’s Union joins efforts for COVID-19 prevention and control

On the afternoon of 17 February, the VWU and FrieslandCampina Company (Dutch Lady Brand) presented handwash and milk products worth of VND 330 million to women living in Son Loi commune, Binh Xuyen district, Vinh Phuc province. The commune has been placed under quarantine after the diagnosis of several cases of Covid-19 virus there.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Huong, Member of the Presidium, Director General of the Communication and Education Department said that since the outbreak of COVID-19 epidemic, the VWU has implemented many prevention activities. Specifically, from January 31, 2020, the VWU has issued documents to direct provincial/municipal WUs and VWU affiliated units on COVID-19 prevention and control.

In the accordance with the VWU’s guideline, the WUs of all level have organized communication activities in many forms to a large number of WU’s members, women and people. Leaflets are distributed and guidance is given on sanitation and cleaning, hand washing with soap, proper mask wearing, etc. Attention is given to the public crowded areas such as inns, markets and local administrative centers.

The VWU has also instructed WUs to cut down big meetings and enhance communication about the epidemic through infographics and videos. Besides, the WU of many provinces and cities have coordinated with health sector and schools in mobilizing parents to apply appropriate right methods to protect their children from COVID-19. WU’s members in many localities produce and give masks to the poor and school children, clean up public places, spray disinfectants and sanitize the environment with lime powder.

The VWU received goods to be given to Son Loi commune inhabitants

VWU’s Tinh Thuong Microfinance Institution (TYM) also paid a visit to Son Loi Commune (Binh Xuyen District, Vinh Phuc province) and presented VND 30 million to Binh Xuyen District Women's Union to buy some necessities for women and its members in quarantine conditions. TYM branch in Binh Xuyen district also delays the repayment date for women loan borrowers in Son Loi commune.

* To the severe COVID-19 outbreak in China, the VWU President sent a letter of sympathy to the All-China Women's Federation. The VWU also donated USD 10,000 to help the Chinese women overcome consequences of the epidemic.
