Vietnam Women's Union attends Performances for Vietnamese Community in Korea

At the invitation of Hampyeong county, Jeollanam district, Korea, the Vietnam Women's Union (VWU) sent a delegation, led by Vice President Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, to attend the program "Performances for Vietnamese Community in Korea" from 23 - 27 October, 2013.

The event was held by the Korean Association in Ho Chi Minh city with the participation of nearly 20 Vietnamese artists and journalists. The program was supported by the Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Vietnam Embassy in the Republic of Korea, governments of Seoul city and Hampyeong county, a number of Korean enterprises, and the sponsor Vietnam Airlines.

Vietnamese artists had 2 performance nights in Seoul and Hampyeong county (Jeollanam Province) for Vietnamese people overseas. Speaking at the performances, Vice President Nguyen Thi Thu Ha encouraged expatriates, particularly Vietnamese women in Korea, to unite, help one other, and build a community of stability and development. She also spoke of the importance ofalways looking towards the homeland, and the integral role of strengthening and developing relationship between Vietnam and Korea.

The colourful performances, combining modern music, traditional music and comedy, achieved great success and received enthusiasticresponses from audiences. Through the performances, Vietnamese artists conveyed to the expatriates a deep love from the country, their parents, relatives, and transferred the unique Vietnamese culture to both Vietnamese and Korean audiences. The performances were encouraging for the Vietnamese community in the Republic of Korea and proved to be a meaningful event to mark the 21st anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries.

On this occasion, the Vietnamese delegation visited theEmbassy of Vietnam in Republic of Korea and was informed about the situation of the Vietnamese people in Korea, as well as some policies of the Korean Government to support multi-cultural families, including Korean-Vietnamese families. The Embassy appreciated the initiative of the Korean Association in Ho Chi Minh city and are eager to cooperate in organizing similar programs in the coming years. Vice President Nguyen Thi Thu Ha informed the Vietnam Embassy about the first Conference ofthe Overseas VietnameseWomen to be held by the VWU and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in late November 2013. She warmly welcomed Vietnamese women delegates in the Republic of Korea to attend the conference and share in ideas to gather overseas Vietnamese women. She also articulated that this would be a great opportunity for them to express their feelings, aspirations and recommendations to the Party, State and local agencies, including the Vietnam Women's Union.

The delegation also visited and worked with leaders of Seoul city and Hampyeong county- two local authorities who sponsored the program. Mrs. Thu Ha thanked the Korean agencies for their policies that support the Vietnamese community in Korea, expressing her hope that the people and women of Korea and Vietnam can maintain their close relationship and cooperate in the future.

During their time in the Republic of Korea, the VWU delegation had a meeting with the Korean Women's Development Institute (KWDI) on preparation for the first Vietnam - Korea Women's Forum to be held in mid November, 2013. They also visited and worked with Seo Kyeong University (SKU) on joint aestheticstraining in Vietnam such as hairdressing, make-up artistry, and skin care .

The working visit of the VWU delegation was successful and created some new activities to support Vietnamese women in Korea. The visit also strengthened the relationship with Korean partners for gender equality and women’s advancement in both countries.
