Vietnam Women’s Museum - first choice of Mrs. Ban Soon-taek, spouse of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon during her two-day visit to Vietnam

At the invitation of the State President Truong Tan Sang, from May 22nd - 23th 2015, the UN Secretary - General Ban Ki-moon and his wife, Mrs. Ban Soon-taek paid an official visit to Vietnam. Paying special attention to Vietnamese women and wishing to learn about their history and culture, Mrs. Ban Soon-taek has visited the Vietnam Women's Museum (VWM). Mrs. Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa, member of the Party Central Committee, VWU President, and VWM leaders solemnly welcomed the UN Secretary- General’s spouse at the museum.

The VWM has a great honor to be Mrs. Ban Soon-taek’s first choice among others during herrecent two-day visit to Vietnam. Just entered the museum, the UN Secretary-General spouse sincerely shared her thoughts that there are not many countries in the world having a unique museum dedicated to women, so Vietnamese women should be proud of having their own museum.

Going through all the displayed contents of the museum, Mrs. Ban Soon-taek paid great attention to the role of Vietnamese women in the family, especially to the diversity of Vietnamese wedding customs and rites; Vietnamese traditional medicines for women during pregnancy, delivery ... Particularly, the stories about Vietnamese women in the history of struggling for national construction and defence have aroused in her many emotions.

At the end of the visit, Mrs. Ban Soon-taek left her impression in the museum visitors’ book "Thank you for your warm welcome to your very unique museum. I appreciate and commend all you are doing to promote understanding about the important role of Vietnamese women throughout history”.
