Vietnam Women's Union and women nationwide actively participate in election activities

In order to increase the percentage of women elected to the National Assembly and the People's Councils for the 2021-2026 term, the Vietnam Women's Union (VWU) has early directed its whole system on election work.

WUs at all levels have reviewed and introduced 376 qualified women in various fields to the Committee on National Assembly deputies for consideration and 109 of 376 women recommended by WUs were selected to be candidates for the 15th National Assembly Election.

To support the female candidates, the VWU has provided capacity building training for them. "According to a quick report, by May 10, the WUs at all levels had organized over 800 training courses with the participation of more than 55,500 female candidates" - VWU Vice President Bui Thi Hoa shared.

In particular, the VWU has guided the WUs at all levels to support the election in accordance with its functions and tasks; promote communication and mobilize members, women and people to exercise their citizens' rights and responsibilities to vote; raise public awareness on gender equality, and encourage voting for qualified female candidates to increase women’s representation in elected bodies.

WUs at all levels have organized more than 63,000 communication campaigns reaching out to more than 3.2 million people and distributed 250,000 election communication products to WUs at grassroot level.

In the atmosphere of the National Election Day, on the morning of May 23, women across the country excitedly went to vote to elect deputies to the 15th National Assembly and the People's Councils at all levels for the 2021-2026 term.
