The report by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) says Vietnam, together with Myanmar, is the country that have made remarkable progress in implementing the UN Millennium Development Goals.

The report indicates that since 1990, 68% of Myanmar population have access to clean water while the figure in Vietnam is 47%.

According to the report, at present, two billion people all over the world do not have adequate hygienic conditions. The situation can hinder the UN MDGs’ target to reduce 700 million people who do not access basic hygiene system by 2015.

Countries that have not achieved progress in implementing MDG in providing people with adequate basic hygiene services are mainly in Africa and South Asian.

In these countries, the number of people who enjoy basic hygiene services is 10% lower than the target. In South Asian countries, 778 million people do not have closed sanitation system, which increases the danger of diarrhea in children – the disease of top cause for child death in developing countries.

However, the report shows that the number of people who do not have access to safe water reduces by 1 billion. Over 90% of the world population is expected to get safe water access by 2015.
