Vietnam flowers blossom in Japanese market

16/01/2006
Vietnam expects to reap an annual turnover of some US$8 million from flower exports to Japan due to mounting demand, the Ministry of Trade forecast.

The country achieved exports totaling $6.5 million in 2005 or 1.4 percent of Japan’s import market share, fueled by high quality flower growing and successful promotional campaigns.

The ministry reported that Vietnam-grown flowers are favored by Japanese people, particularly the lotus flower.

Orchids and bonsai trees make up the bolus of Vietnamese flowers sold to Japan, with China, Malaysia, Thailand, and Columbia amassing $453 million annually in total flower imports to the Land of the Rising Sun.
