Vice President Truong My Hoa visits Central Vietnam Women’s Union

In the afternoon January 5th, 2007, Vice President Truong My Hoa had a working session with leaders of Central VWU in preparation for the 10th National Women’s Congress to be held on March 8th 2007.

Mme Ha Thi Khiet, Member of Central Party’s Committee, President of VWU reported o­n the effort of the Central VWU in guiding lower Women’s Unions to conduct Women’s Congress at the localities and in preparing for the 10th National Women’s Congress.

 

So far, 100% urban/districts, cities under the provincial level, and the Department of Women’s Affairs in the Police and Army forces have organized their respective level women’s congress. It is proved that these Women’s Congresses were well organized and carefully prepared, not o­nly in the substance but also in the personnel and communication work, thus becoming a political event among women strata and within communities. The qualification of members of Executive Committee is higher than previous term’s. The contingent of WU’s cadres has been arranged in such away to ensure the unity and lower average of age. At present, The Central VWU is working hard o­n the preparation for the 10th National Women’s Congress

 

VWU’s leaders also reported to the Vice President their deep insights of what they have gathered from their field missions to provide guidance to local women’s congresses including opportunities, challenges, worries, concerns, and issues emerged at the grassroots and in the women’s movement. The present trend of international integration has brought about great opportunities, advantages and momentums for development. However, women suffer most the negative impact of the market economy and globalization process. Poverty, degraded moralities and life style, trafficking in women and children, domestic violence; possibilities of unemployment and job lost of a considerable number of women who have low professional skillsand bad impacts of urbanization have been o­n a rise; The care and support to the mountainous and ethnic minority women and children have been also a great concern.

 

Addressing at the working session, Mme Truong My Hoa praised efforts of the central VWU so far. She emphasized that the 10th National Women’s Congress takes place at a significant time when Vietnam became the 150th member of WTO. The Congress need identify opportunities and difficulties, set up effective measures, meanwhile, concentrate to deal with pressing issues, especially those emerged from the grassroots, in a strategic and sustainable manor. Vice President also highlighted challenges related to women in international integration and newly emerging key issues that VWU’s Executive Committee and Standing Presidium need to further discuss o­n before submitting to the Congress.
