Vice President Truong My Hoa attends global summit of women

A Vietnamese delegation, led by Vice State President Truong My Hoa, is attending the 16th Global Summit of Women, which opened in Cairo, Egypt, on June 10.

The annual summit gathers many outstanding women, including state and government leaders, ministers and leaders of major organisations and businesses in the world.

 

The Vietnamese delegation also includes leaders of some ministries and services and more than 40 woman entrepreneurs.


Addressing the opening session, Vice President Hoa, who is also co-honorary president of the summit, said that promoting and raising women's role in every area are the matter of interest not o­nly by women but also by the whole mankind.


She stressed that opportunities and challenges in the globalisation process require women to participate in  global-scale joint activities.


Vice President Hoa informed the meeting of the Vietnamese State's consistent policy and determination to implement gender equality, increase women's role and carry out the National Strategy for Vietnamese Women's Advancement through 2010 with a view to ensuring women's fundamental rights and upholding their role in political, economic, cultural and social aspects.

She spoke of the great socio-economic achievements made by Viet Nam in the recent past, highlighting the important contributions by Vietnamese women

 

Viet Nam's Minister of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs Nguyen Thi Hang, Minister-Chairwoman of the National Committee for Population, Family and Children Nguyen Thi Thu, Deputy Trade Minister Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, and others attended a round-table ministerial talk, which discussed the development of the partnership between the public and private sectors to encourage the advancement of women in economic fields.

 

At the Summit, Viet Nam participated in WEXPO, an exhibition for women entrepreneurs to  introduce their wares. Viet Nam's pavilion attracted many visitors with its various fine arts and handicrafts,  including rattan knitted products, lacquer paintings, embroidery products, and agricultural products such as tea and coffee.
