Vice President of VWU - Mrs. Nguyen Thi Kim Thuy visited to Germany and the Netherlands

By the invitation of German Savings Bank Association (DSGV), VWU’s delegation headed by Mrs. Nguyen Thi Kim Thuy, Vice President of VWU paid a study visit to Germany and the Netherlands.

The visit aims to study theoperation of German Savings Bank Association, the system ofvocational training, supportive activitiesfor business and gender equality. The delegation had meetings with the Deputy Minister of economic cooperation and Development, President of Saving Banks Foundation for International Cooperation (SBFIC), Chief ofExecutive Committee of Essen city Savings Bank, Mayor of the Essen city, representative of Economic Promotion and Head of Gender Equality of Essen city, Board of German Development Service (DED). The delegation also worked with the Board of Catholic Organization for Relief and Development Aid (Cordaid) in the Netherlands..

 

At the meetings, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Kim Thuy informed current achievements of soci0 - economic development of Vietnam and the majoractivities of VWU she also expressed thanks andhope for continued support of the Germany and the Netherlands Government to the Vietnamese women’s development and international integration. All organizations highly appraised Vietnam’s achievements in renovation period especially VWU’s contribution in poverty reduction as well asgender equality.

 

DSGV and DED in Germany and Cordaid in the Netherlands also highly appreciated the cooperation with VWU through capacity building projects to further extend the operation of TYM Fund (Affection Fund). All the organizations confirmed to continue their support to VWU in the area of poverty reduction, especially to professionalize TYM Fund into a stable, micro financial organization.

 

Notably, Ms Karin Kortmann, Deputy minister of German Ministry of economic cooperation and development who visited Vietnam and TYM Fund in 2007, was pleased with the development of Vietnam. She had a good impression o­n VWU’s activities to support for women in general and the poor in particular. As an adviser to the Government in international economic cooperation, the Vice minister committed to propose more cooperation projects with Vietnam to further benefit the Vietnamese people especially women in the years to come.

 

During the study visit , the delegation also visited Vietnamese Embassies in these countries and had meetings with some Vietnamese women who are residing and working in these countries. At the meetings, representatives of delegation briefed the WU’s activities as well as the resolution of the 10th Congress of Women Union which includes the idea of reaching out to the Vietnamese overseas women in the world.

 

The visit contributed to strengthen and develop thecooperation relations between Vietnam and these countries especially between VWU withits partner organizations in the Germany and the Netherlands
