Thua Thien Hue Provincial Women’s Union: Presenting Gifts to the Poor Women Living in Dam River Area.

Despite of being a difficult province, Thua Thien Hue province spent a large amount to invest in programs for settlement, resettlement, poverty reduction, and improving the livelihood for people living in coastal and marsh areas. These programs helped people who used to live o­n boats not o­nly to be stable o­n living places but also to develop their household economy and to provide opportunities for children to school. More and more people are able to get access to social services and to benefit from social welfare’s work that bring security for families in the rainstorm season.

The Women’s Union at different levels conducted various activities to encourage and mobilize people to settle, set up happy family clubs; reproductive health clubs…to communicate knowledge o­n reproductive heath, environmental sanitation, children's healthcare, prevention of social evils, HIV/AIDS and many others as well as to provide loans for women to carry out aquaculture and trading. Overcoming difficult living situations, women actively implemented the Party and State’s policies. Up to now, 1,000 households have steadily stabilized their lives.

At the dialogue, Thua Thien Hue Provincial Women’s Union in collaboration with Prudential Life Insurance Company Hue Branch, presented 79 gifts (on which Prudential Company supported 35 gifts) for the poor women of Phu Vang district and Hue City. Each gift consisted of 200,000 VND in cash and in kind valuing 50,000 VND. These gifts are small but expressed the sharing of the women’s union cadres, members and staffs of Prudential Company – o­ne of the leading groups in social and community activities throughout Thua Thien – Hue province.
