Theoretical issues on women work in current situation
The seminar attracted the participation of leading scientists and theorists in social, women and gender equality related sectors from the Central Theoretical Council, relevant ministries, agencies, research institutes, educational establishments ect... Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, VWU President and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Doan Minh Huan, Vice Editor-in-Chief of the Communist Review co-chaired the seminar.
The seminar aims at initially synthesizing theoretical issues on women work, which serves as a basis for the VWU to give advice and make policy proposals as well as give guidance for its activities in practice in the next term (2017-2022).
In her keynote address at the seminar, VWU President Nguyen Thi Thu Ha said that theoretical research on women work remains new for the Union, although the practice of women work and women's movement in Vietnam has a long history and diversity. Scientific studies on women work have not been paid due attention to; theoretical issues on women work are underdeveloped; there is a lack of practice review and theoretical basis in order to adequately address new issues related to women, and those arising from women's movement.
The VWU, with its historical tradition of nearly 90 years, has diverse activities and practices, and has managed to meet the needs and attract large participation of women, however, there still exists such a judgment in the society that the VWU’s operation still somewhat heavily relies on experiences, while lacking a scientific basis… Therefore, it is of great significance and pressing need now to review the VWU’s practices, to develop theoretical basis for renovating content and mode of its operation as well as proposing VWU activity models appropriate and responsive to the current situation. In the coming time, the VWU will continue organizing scientific events and activities in order to build-up and further develop theoretical basis for women work in the current situation; make use of the opinions shared and discussed by experts and specialists at the seminar as inputs to further improve the VWU’s documents to be presented at the 12th National Women’s Congress.
