The Vietnam Women's Union of Ho Chi Minh City received the project titled "Assisting women & children being trafficked and sexual slavery"

The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee approved the project "Assisting women & children being trafficked and sexual slavery" and it is funded by Agir pour Les Femmes en Situation Precaire (AFESIP) organization.

 The project's objective is to provide information, education and communication o­n preventing the trafficking of women and children. It aims to enhance the awareness of women and children located in the high-risk areas; provide prostitutes with basic knowledge about HIV/AIDS, introduce safe sex methods in order to prevent HIV/AIDS infection and other STI’s, help their families and community to be free from HIV infection; enable victims of trafficking to have psychological stability, opportunities to access literacy and vocational training, capital to do business and then support to gradually reintegrate into the community.

 

The project's activities include approaching and advocating women and children who are at risk, receiving victims at "Center for assisting disadvantaged women & children" and supporting and supervising their reintegration process into the community.

 

Accordingly, 100 cases will be received, assisted and treated and 30 cases will be helped in backing their home and reintegration into the community.

 

The Vietnam Women's Union of Ho Chi Minh City is assigned to manage the project that has an estimated total fund of nearly 2 billions VND and will be conducted in 24 quarters, districts of the city from January 1st 2006 to December 31st , 2007.
