The 3rd Vietnam – Korea Women’s Forum: women empowerment and cooperation opportunities

Since 2013, the Vietnam – Korea Women’s Forum has been co-organized by the Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU) and the Korean Women’s Development Institute (KWDI) annually and rotatingly in Korea and Vietnam to promote cooperation between women of the two countries. This October, the 3rd Vietnam – Korea Women’s Forum was held in Hanoi with the participation of more than 80 delegates from Vietnam and Korea.

In her opening remark, VWU Vice – President Bui Thi Hoa appreciated this Forum, which was to address the participation of women in economic and social activities, as an opportunity for delegates from both sides to exchange best practices to promote women’s capabilities and creativity for the benefit of women as well as the national development.

The Forum had 2 sessions o­n “Enhancing women’s participation in economic activities” and “Women and social fields”, in which delegates discussed about women’s employment and income, opportunities and challenges for women in the international integration process, policies and activities to empower women and promote their participation in all fields, the need to raise social awareness o­n gender equality and eliminate stereotypes about housework and childcare as the sole responsibility of women, and the need for a State governance agency o­n women's issues, etc.

The participants also discussed issues of international marriage of Vietnamese – Korean couples and the need for closer cooperation between the two sides to support women and children in multicultural families.

As a side activity of the Forum, there was a meeting between Vietnamese and Korean women entrepreneurs, in which they introduced their products and looked for cooperation prospects. The Korean delegates also attended some other events in commemoration of the VWU’s 85th anniversary.
