Safe vegetables and fruits supported for people affected by COVID-19

During the past time, the model of safe vegetable production run by the Women's Union of Nghia Ha commune, Quang Ngai city (Quang Ngai province) has effectively supported the COVID-19 epidemic prevention.

Nghia Ha Commune WU defines that ensuring quality and effectiveness of safe vegetable models becomes an important task to bring long-term benefits to its members and protect consumers’ health, contributing to better implementation of "Clean kitchen" criterion within the Campaign “Building the family of 5 Without-s and 3 Clean-s”. After 3 years, its members have had a positive change in thinking about proper use of pesticides and fertilizers for vegetables.

From 01 ha of safe vegetables planted by ​​16 WU members in Binh Dong, Ham Long and Sung Tuc villages, this number was raised to 3.95 ha with 56 women and expected 183 tons of vegetable per year. These products were granted a VIETGAP certificate in April 2021.

Thanks to the support and technical guidance of local authorities, 4 net houses were built to plant safe vegetables and developing with variety of products as of today. This brings stable earnings and jobs for 56 women with monthly income over 3,000,000 VND per person.

In addition to economic development, in recent times, this model has shared love, joined hands, and supported a variety of vegetables and fruits for blocked residential and concentrated isolation areas, not only in Quang Ngai city but also in districts and towns of the province. Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the model has supported more than 04 tons of green vegetables and fruits, which are a source of daily necessities for people.

Nghia Ha Commune WU has been promoting communication to its members and people so far to understand benefits of safe and clean agricultural products for sustainable income enhancement, at the same time, looking for preferential resources to develop the chain of safe vegetables production and consumption in the coming time.
