Republic of Korea Ambassador visits VWU

On July 27, VWU President Nguyen Thi Thu Ha cordially received Korean Ambassador Mr. Lee Hyuk on the occasion of his new term in Vietnam.
On behalf of the VWU leaders, President Nguyen Thi Thu Ha extended her congratulation and wished the Ambassador success in his new post.

President Nguyen Thi Thu Ha briefed him of the cooperation between VWU and Korean partners in the areas of training, supporting women entrepreneurs, research, etc. Major Korean partners of the VWU include KOICA Vietnam, Korean Women’s Development Institute (KWDI), World Women Inventors and Entrepreneurs Association (WWIEA)... The highlight event is the Vietnam-Korea Women's Forum which is alternately held every year; and the upcoming Forum is to be held in Korea this October. VWU President expressed her appreciation of the active support by Korean partners for the Vietnamese “Women Inventors’ Day”.

In particular, Madam Ha highly appreciated Korean Government 300,000 US dollars’ worth of support through UN Women in Vietnam for the people affected by drought and salt water intrusion in the Mekong Delta. Also, with Korean funding, UN Women is working closely with the Women's Union to support 7,500 affected households in 3 provinces of Gia Lai, Kon Tum, Ca Mau.

President Nguyen Thi Thu Ha shared with the Korean Ambassador VWU’s high attention to the issue of Korean-Vietnamese multicultural families. VWU is implementing various activities to support the Vietnamese women in international marriage including language classes, orientation sessions o­n customs, culture, and cuisine, and pre-marriage counseling. These activities however are yet to meet the women’s practical needs.

In the next term, VWU will prioritize supporting women in business startup. VWU looks forward to further assistance by Korean partners and the Korean Embassy o­n the above mentioned issues.

Ambassador Lee Hyuk appreciated the cooperation between women of the two countries. He will do his best to promote gender equality and women’s advancement in Vietnam. He is ready to work with VWU to support the Vietnamese brides in Korea, contributing to sustainability and happiness of Korean-Vietnamese multicultural families.
