In order to help older people affected by HIV and AIDs and their family members to earn descent and reliable living under the project VIE 011, Hanoi Women’s Union continues piloting the new project supported by Ford Foundation in Vietnam.

In the piloting duration for 10 months from April 2009 to January 2010, the project will set up 3 IGA (income generating activities) groups attracting about 50 older people affected by HIV and AIDs and their family members to participate in. The 3 IGA groups are: balloon twisting and entertainment group, dolls making group and crocheting making group. Group members will be trained by the project to be able to run and manage their IGAs. For the balloon twisting and entertainment group members, the training will be on balloon twisting, the popular children’s songs or dances, how to do magic, or how to organize games for children. After being trained, this group will provide entertainment service at children birthday and on special events, such as Mid-Autumn’s Day, International Children’s Day….For dolls making and crochet making groups, the training will be on how to make dolls and crochets including how to crochet animals, flowers, scarves, and others.

Expert from HelpAge International (HAI) will support to train group members on the skills of crocheting, organizing events, marketing products and quality controlling.

The model of this project will be replicated and developed to different vocational training centers in provinces/cities if it is implemented successfully.
