In the morning April 6th 2007 the National Committee for the Advancement of Women in coordination with the Central Commission for Culture and Ideology organized Seminar on “The 12th National Assembly Election and Gender Equality”, many journalists in Hanoi and central news agencies attended.

Addressing at the seminar, Ms. Tran Thi Mai Huong, Standing Vice President of NCFAW stressed important role of public media in communicating, raising awareness of people in society on gender equality, particularly on leadership and management.

According to Ms Doan Thi Thuan M.A (Department of Press – Commission for Central Culture and Ideology), besides good activities, communication task still heavily bears gender bias, incomprehensive and slow renovation in both measures and forms. Women’s images almost appear in fields of culture, family, health care…but limited in areas of politics, economics, technology and sciences.

Thus, the task is to make press agencies in the near future to focus on communicating measures, policies of Party and Government in promoting the involvement of women in leadership and management, especially to raise the ratio of the female deputy to at least 30% in the 12th National Assembly; the roles and great contribution of women in the national defence and development, promoting good example of women in every sectors, particularly in leadership, management.

At the seminar, press delegates discussed straightly issues related to 12th NA Election and gender equality and share experiences, difficulties and measures in communication to realize gender equality goals.
