Press conference on the occasion of 96th anniversary of International Women’s Day March 8th

“Welcome the Women’s Congresses of all level, heading towards the 10 th National Women’s Congress, and the implementation of gender equality for the advancement of women and social development” is the communication theme for the Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU) in 2006 and on the occasion of 96th anniversary of International Women’s Day March 8th.

The theme was announcedat the press conference held by VWU o­n 20 Feb. 2006.

 

Following this theme, the media is encouraged to focus o­n the following VWU main activities and targets in 2006 and o­n the 8th March occasion: development, dissemination, and implementation of the action plan to realize the resolution of the 10th National Party Congress; Women’s Congresses at the 3 lower levels, heading towards the 10th National Women’s Congress in the spirit of solidarity and renovation, incorporating the targets set by the 10th National Party Congress; lessons learnt by VWU at all levels while implementing the resolution of the 9th National Women’s Congress in close relation with socio-economic development targets of the whole country and specific localities in the first quarter of 2006; new developments in the women’s movement and achievements by the women since the last Women’s Congress; achievements in VWU’s 6 target programs and the movement “Women as active learners, creative workers, and builders of happy families”; the draft Law of Gender Equality to be submitted to the National Assembly for approval in 2006; preparation and organization of the 11th APEC Women Leaders’ Network Meeting in Hanoi; live television bridge “Two sisters” as a get-together between VWU and Laos Women’s Union; women with distinguished achievements in different walks of life and newly-emerged role models in the national emulation movement, particularly the women individuals and collectives to receive the 2005 Kovalevskaia Prizes; and the implementation of VWU Executive Committee’s Resolution No.7 o­n the solutions to social problems related to women and girl children.
