Poor Pupils Granted Scholarships by HCMC Women’s Union

Over the past years, the Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU) has had several programs on health care, supporting children in mountainous and remote areas with stationery and learning materials and granted thousands of scholarships to difficult pupils who are talented at learning. For example:

Hochiminh City Women’s Union granted 45,222 scholarships to pupils worth 15 billion VND; Women’s Union of Binh Duong province granted 2,230 scholarships worth 931 million VND; Women’s Union of Vinh Long province granted 1,215 scholarships worth 472 million VND; Women’s Union of Ba Ria – Vung Tau province granted 4,132 scholarships worth 1 billion VND. Also, women’s unions at all levels have had scholarship programs for poor pupils in many models such as: “Omo – White Blouse – Bright Future” program with 60,000 white blouses presented to poor schoolgirls in different provinces.

 

VEDAN Joint-stock Company (VEDAN JSC) granted scholarships worth 1.5 billion VND to poor pupils with good school records.

 

Within the framework of the program “Sharing happiness, more smiles” in the period of 2003-2006, the VWU and VEDAN JSC annually handle 900 scholarships worth 500.000VND each to poor and/or disabled pupils who have good school results in the province of Nghe An, Quang Ngai, Ba Ria – Vung Tau, An Giang, Hai Duong, Hung Yen, increasing the amount to 1.5 billion VND equally to 2,860 scholarships.

 

On 11th and 12th April 2006, the VWU coordinated with VEDAN JSC to grant 700 scholarships to poor and/or disable pupils in Ben Tre province and 200 scholarships to pupils in Hochiminh. Though it’s a small amount, it could help encourage these pupils to be more self-confident and study better.

 

With the business slogan “From society and for society”, this is the 3rd year that VEDAN JSC will coordinate with the VWU o­n the program “Sharing happiness, more smiles”. This program includes 3 draw times and the 1st prize winner of each time is entitled to bring back to his province a charitable award in cash. The total value of these 3 prizes is 450 million VND (1st prize – 100million VND, 2nd – 150 million VND, 3rd – 200 million VND). The VWU helps to transfer this money to provinces for scholarships.

 

VEDAN JSC participates actively in social activities such as: poverty alleviation; supporting people who have suffered from natural accidents, floods and storms; building house of gratitude; supporting the movement of school establishment in poor communes and responding to the movement of supporting the poor. Over the past 10 years, 10 billion VND has been raised./.
