Poor people to get priorities in health care

The Government will retain its key role in investment in health care in the next 10-15 years, particularly for poor people, said Health Minister Tran Thi Trung Chien in an recent interview with the Vietnam News Agency.

The Government will increase the proportion of public finances in national health care with the State budget keeping the main role in addition to reforming the State budget distribution for prioritised targets concerning geographical areas and income groups, the poor, under-six children and other beneficiaries of the social policies.


Minister Chien said the Government will gradually implement a health care insurance policy for all people, primarily for poor people, people of ethnic minority groups in isolated and remote areas, under- six children and others.


The Minister added that the health sector will expand the health care fund for the poor with an average spending of about VND 70,000 per person a year and that will be raised in coming years.


Besides, the health sector will focus o­n strengthening health care networks at grassroots levels with a view to benefiting the poor, especially women and children, in order to ensure equality in health care services.
