Panel Discussion on “Vietnamese Women in the 21st Century”

On the occasion of 95th years of International Women’s Day, on 8 March 2005 the Central Viet Nam Women’s Union(VWU) and United Nations Fund for Women Development (UNIFEM) cooperated to held the Panel Discussion on “Vietnamese Women in the 21st Century”.
 

Attending this event there are Madame Ha Thi Khiet, Party Central committee Member, President of the VWU, representatives of Ministries/ Branches, international agencies based in Vietnam like: UNDP, UNICEF, UNESCO, FAO, WHO, and many journalists and correspondents from the Central and Hanoi city.

 

In the opening remark, President Ha Thi Khiet highlighted the Vietnamese women have made a great contribution to the national achievements. As a mass labor force, the Vietnamese women are showing their roles, capacity and creativity in all fields of life, adapting themselves to the global integration and development”

 

In the Panel Discussion, the participants reviewed the traditional roles of the Vietnamese women in the family as well as in the society, which were considered as a foundation for women to overcome the challenges and to access to the opportunities in the 21st Century. To the side of managers, there should be social policies and program to support women to fulfill their roles and enjoy their rights, which were appropriate to the rules and standards defined by the UN Convention o­n Elimination Discrimination against Women (CEDAW). Besides, entering to the 21st Century, Vietnamese women need to promote their potentiality and qualification to actively contribute to the national renovation and to achieve gender equality in different fields of life.
