Overseas Compatriots Directing Toward the Middle Region

Through the Vietnam Television’s news program on the channel VTV 4, the overseas compatriots have followed news and images about the damage to the Middle region caused by storm no.1 (Chanchu storm).

 Most Vietnamese people living in 90 countries and regions around the world showed their understanding and wanted to assist the flood victims. 100 million VND and approximately 10.000 USD were sent to the Vietnamese Fatherland Front to deliver to them.

 

In the past few days, Vietnamese communities in foreign countries have been deeply moved by the truthful images about the great pains of compatriots – the fishermen living in the Middle region – caused by the storm no.1 and the share of inner people, the leaders of the Vietnamese Communist Party and government as well as appropriate authorities o­n the Vietnam Television and others mass media outlets.

 

Mr. Pham Minh Nam -President of the New World Fashion corporation and his wife, Mrs. Dao Thi Tuyet said that despite having an English nationality, their grandparents came to Ha Noi to ask the Vietnamese Fatherland Front for sending 100 million to the victims’ families as their bloodstream is Vietnamese.

 

On this occasion, the Vietnamese ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary at the United Kingdom, Mr. Trinh Duc Du said, “The staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in the United Kingdom, branch of Vietnam News Agency in London contributed a days salary to the flood victims’ families. ”

 

In Hungary, the Women Association in Budapest actively called o­n the community to support the victims right after receiving information o­n the losses caused by storm no.1. And o­n the afternoon of 29 May 2006, the Vietnamese Fatherland Front received 4376 USD from the Vietnamese community in Hungary of which 1130 USD was from the Vietnamese Older Association in Hungary and 3246 USD was from the Women Association and the Veteran Association.

 

Talking with a reporter of VTV4 through telephone, Madame Phan Bich Thien – President of Women Association said, ”We are trying our best to share the losses that nothing can compensate of the flood victims’ relatives. We hope that the nationals in other countries will also participate in this charity work positively, not o­nly material or mental assistance but also with science and technology. It will make the fishermen feel secure that the risk is minimized and in case the unfortunate event happens, their family and children’s future could be ensured though not much.”

 

The staffs of the Vietnamese embassy in the Federal Republic of Germany and at the Bon office, contributed spontaneously at least a days salary each; The Dien Hong Association (The Vietnam – German Friendship Organization) in Rostock city of the Federal Republic of German collected 589 Euro.

 

From the Federal Republic of Germany, Mr. Luong Anh Dung – Vice President of Vietnamese people Association in Dressden sent a letter to the “Meeting audiences of VTV4” column, “The Vietnamese community in Dressden were very sorrowful knowing the consequence of the storm no.1. We are quickly mobilizing to assist the flood victims’ families. Determining that our fatherland, Vietnam, is in the most dangerous position, so it is very difficult to avoidbad impacts of storms. Therefore, the Vietnamese community – especially associations – should have a storm relief fund for regularly mobilizing benefactors to contribute. It will helpassisting the victims in time and more effectivly.”
