Over 60,000 blind people get loans for job generation

07/10/2005
More than 60,000 blind people nationwide have found jobs over the past five years, thanks to loans of VND 28 billion (roughly US $1.75 million) from the National Fund for Job Generation

These loans have helped reduce the poverty rate of blind people to just over 19.9% in 2005 from 29.8% in 2001. The figures were reported at the first emulation congress of the Vietnam Association of the Blind (VAB) in Hanoi on August 23.

During the reviewed period, the association's chapters in localities assisted over 1,000 blind people in learning Braille each year. In addition, emulation movements launched by the VAB have also contributed to boosting the cultural level of the blind and reducing poverty among them.
