Vu Thi Nguyet Anh has partly eased the drought for gold medals of the Vietnamese sports delegation at the 15th Asian Games as she won the second gold medal after a 6-1 overwhelming victory over Malaysian Vasantha Marial Anthony in the final, which ended minutes ago.

With Nguyen Hoang Ngan falling short in the final of women’s kata (demonstration) to Japanese Nao Morooka earlier, Nguyet Anh, who won a gold medal at the 23rd SEA Games one year ago in the Phillippines, was the only Vietnamese kumite (fight) artist to win the second gold medal.

Nguyet Anh made a good start in the final of women’s under-48 kilograms with Anthony as she take a 3-0 lead shortly after the beginning of the final. The lead was then extended to 4-0 before the two artists swapped two points, making it 5-1 in favour of Nguyen Anh.

The Vietnamese artist completed a comprehensive victory with another point, winning the second gold medal for Vietnamese sports delegation.

Nguyet Anh reached the final after beating Jittikan Tiemsurakan from Thailand 4-0 in the semi-finals, Mae Soriano from the Philippines in the quarter-finals.

The Vietnamese artists did not have to compete in the first round.

So far, Vietnam have won two gold, nine silver and six bronze medals and are now 18th in the medal tally. Earlier, the sepak takraw team had won a gold medal after beating Thailand 2-1 in the final.
