On July 30, the National Committee for the Advancement of Women in Vietnam (NCFAW) held its 26th regular conference to report on activities during the first half of the year, adopt the workplan for the second half and discuss contributions to the draft of Gender Equality Law.

The conference was chaired by Mme. Ha Thi Khiet – Party Politburo member, VWU President and NCFAW Chairwoman. Attending the event were Mme. Dang Huynh Mai - Deputy Minister of Education and Training and NCFAW Vice-Chairperson - and Mme. Nguyen Thanh Hoa – VWU Vice-President.

In the 1st half of the year, NCFAW closely followed its workplan, collaborating with line ministries and functional agencies to accomplish its duties, namely guidance on the implementation of population and family planning policies, communication and training, monitoring, contribution to law and policy formulation, organizational consolidation, international activities, etc. Certain activities were implemented very successfully, such as a conference to share skills in the work on women’s advancement, participation in drafting the Vietnam Millenium Development Goals Realization Report, final review of project “Gender in public policy”, and attendance at conferences of Asia-Africa cooperation and Non-Alignment Movement.

During the 2nd half of the year, NCFAW will concentrate on 2 critical issues, i.e. monitoring activities for women’s advancement in 19 remaining ministries, sectors and localities, which is to facilitate successful implementation of Directive No. 46 CT/TU on the target of 15% of Party Executive Committee members at various-leveled Party Congresses being women as preparation for the Party’s 10th National Congress; gathering information on the implementation of population and family planning targets and working with VWU on Gender Equality Law drafting as well as getting feedback on the draft.

The conference allocated time for participants to discuss the draft of Gender Equality Law. NCFAW members made practical and well-reasoned contributions, which are precious for the Law Drafting Committee.
