National Meeting reviewing 5 years of implementing the Emulation Movement "Women actively study, creatively work and nurture happy family"

On 7 September 2006, at the Friendship Palace, the Presidium of Viet Nam Women's Union held a National Meeting reviewing 5 years of implementing the Emulation Movement "Women actively study, creatively work and nurture happy family” launched by the Central Women’s Union at the 10th National Women's Congress.

The meeting had the attendance of Mr. Truong Tan Sang, Member of the Politburo, Standing Member of the Secretariat of the Central Communist Party; Mme Truong My Hoa, Vice President of Viet Nam, Vice Chairman of the National Committee for Emulation and Reward; and leaders of ministries, departments, branches and organizations at central level together with the presence of more than 400 typical representatives of organizations and individuals. Mme Ha Thi Khiet, Member of the Central Communist Party, President of the Viet Nam Women's Union, President of the National Committee for the Advancement of Vietnamese Women, President of the VWU's Committee for Emulation and Reward made a speech at the meeting.

 

After 5 years of implementing, the movement has attracted the participation of a wide range of women including the VWU's cadres and members, creating practical benefits for women at all strata. More than 2 million women were trained and disseminated with scientific and technical knowledge; over 9 million union's members were disseminated with the skills of managing and using the capital effectively. The Union at all levels, with their prestige, acts as the guarantees for 470,000 women to borrow 500 billion VND for production investment. As an outcome, 218,184 households escaped from poverty; some of which even became wealthy with the income of 500 million VND to 1 billion VND per year. The Women's Union at all levels have raised a subscription of 69 billion VND for Heroic Vietnamese Mothers; and mobilized 64 billion VND to build houses of gratitude, 116 billion VND to assist women who are in difficulty and misfortune. With practical activities, the Union has attracted an increasing number of members which was over 13 million at the end of 2005, 3 million higher than the number of 2001.

 

In the statement at the meeting, Mr. Truong Tan Sang commends that after 5 years of implementing the Movement created an ebullient emulation atmosphere in all women strata and made a great contribution to hunger eradication, poverty alleviation and the country's economic development. It also upheld the mutual affection and the traditional virtues of the Vietnamese especially Vietnamese women. The movement promoted the unity andthe solidarity of women and enhaced the livelihood quality, which was a great contribution to the realization of the national politic, economic and social goals, as well as to the reinforcement of the political system at the grass-root level. Besides mentioning the achievements, he also pointed out the shortcomings and the limits of the Movement implementation. He suggested that in the next term the VWU needed to promote the movement to a new phase so that emulation would become an important part contributing to the realization of the Union's major missions and the Party and Government's target "wealthy people, strong country, just and civilized society".

 

In this occasion, the Viet Nam Women's Union was awarded the First-class Independence Medal by the President of the State for its excellent achievements in supplying guidance in the Emulation Movement "Women actively study, creatively work and nurture happy family", contributing to the construction and the defense of the country.

 

The meeting also included a hand-over ceremony of the first batch of the subscription to build a statue of Heroic Vietnamese Mother. Up to now, the subscription has reached 6 billion VND.
