More Than 500.000 Women Under 40 Years Old Escape from Illiteracy

17/07/2006
The above number was reported by Ministry of Education and Training in the Review Meeting on five year implementation of the Nation Strategy for the Advancement of Women in Vietnam .

In 2001, in the whole country, there were almost 746,000 women, aged between 15 and 40 years, who were not able to read and write. These women mainly live in disadvantaged, remote and mountainous areas. After five years of implementing the Illiteracy Eradication Program, nearly 635,000 women are literate. In order to gain such an achievement, the education sector has actively cooperated with various levels of the Women's Union, Border Working Groups and the Youth Union in advocating for women and female children in villages to attend school.
