Men can become honorary members of Vietnam Women's Union

There is a number of new provisions in the VWU’s draft amended and supplemented Constitution. Accordingly, Article 3, Clause 2 states "People with prestige and influence, who support women's movements and VWU activities, agree with the VWU’s Constitution and voluntarily join the organization, are recognized as honorary members".

If the draft is approved, it means that men can also become VWU honorary members.

The Drafting Committee of the VWU’s Constitution affirms that the provision on Honorary membership aims to acknowledge and honor people with prestige, influence, major contribution and, support for VWU activities. This is also to meet practical needs, conform to general trend and open up a new approach in the work of gathering members and strengthening the representative voice etc. The draft was under discussions and consultation at the 10th Conference of the VWU Central Executive Committee of the 12th tenure last December 2020.

In fact, there is a number of men taking up positions and participating in VWU work. According to statistics, among 88,859 heads of local WU nationwide, 63 are men. They are village leaders cum head of local WU in Dien Bien (32 people) and Lao Cai (31 people).
