Vietnam Women's Union

The meeting was attended by Ms. Tran Thi Tam Dan, Member of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly, Chair of National Assembly's Committee for Culture - Education for Adolescents and Children; Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoai Thu, Member of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly, Chair of the National Assembly's Committee for Social Affairs; Mr. Luong Van Cu, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee for Social Affairs and the entire of the female members of the 11^th National Assembly.

In a speech at the meeting, Mrs. Ha Thi Khiet, Member of the Central Executive Committee of the Communist Party, President of the Viet Nam Women's Union mentioned an important event on the occasion of the Union's 76th anniversary which was the Live Television Program "Two sisters" co-organized by the Women’s Union of Vietnam and that of Laos. The program was of great significance reflecting the special long lasting, close and stable relationship between the women of Viet Nam and Laos as well as between the peoples of the two countries.

At the meeting, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa, member of the PCC,, Vice President of the Viet Nam Women's Union gave a brief report on the Union's activities in the previous time. The report emphasized on such remarkable activities as providing direction to organize the Women’s Congress at Provincial and District level in proceeding to the 10^th National Women’s Congress; advocating for the promulgation of the Politburo’s Resolution on "Enhancing the leadership of the Communist Party in women’s mobilization and female cadres' promotion in the country's process of industrialization and modernization," and collecting opions in contribution to the finalization of the Law on Gender Equality to be submitted for approval in to the coming session of the National Assembly.

The results of the 11^th APEC Women Leaders' Network Meeting hosted by the Viet Nam Women's Union from 19^th to 22^nd September 2006 was also presented at the meeting.
