Labor Hero title awarded to a nun

On the occasion of the 51 anniversary of the Vietnam Day for Medical Doctors (27 Feb. 1955 – 27 Feb. 2006), the People’s Committee and the Health Department of Lam Dong province, at the decision by the Chairman of the State, organized a ceremony on 25 Feb.

2006 to confer the title of Labor Hero o­n sister Mai Thi Dau, chief of Do Linh Leprosy Treatment Unit.

 

The 65-year-old sister has been working in the unit for 38 years. Taking care of over 2,100 leprosy patients, the unit has placed jobs for several dozens of cured patients and supported education of nearly 30 patients’ children at secondary and tertiary levels. Of these youngsters, 14 have come back and work in the treatment unit as doctors, doctor assistants, nurses, cooks and technicians.

 

Sister Mai Thi Dau and the treatment unit received the Labor Order (third class) in 2001. In 2005 she was selected with 11 others as representatives from Lam Dong province to attend the National Emulation Conference held in Hanoi.
