Korean Embassy visits Ha Giang and learns about women supporting activities
The delegation visited a linen cooperative in Lung Tam commune which received many prizes and merit certificates. The cooperative uses the flax planting and linen weaving techniques of H’mong ethnic minority, which was recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage in 2016. The cooperative’s products have been introduced to many countries across the world and exported to dozens of Asian and European countries.
In Phuong Thien commune, Ha Giang city, the delegation visited Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan, who is a successin developing community tourism and who was acknowledged by the Ha Giang City Women’s Union as a distinguished WU member in economic development in 2014.
Mr. Park Sang Sik was impressed with the women supporting activities of the Ha Giang Women’s Union, and would like to promote Ha Giang tourism among Korean tourists. With findings from the visit, he would actively explore possibilities to promote cooperation with and supports for Ha Giang and VWU by Korean partners. In recent years, the Korean Government has provided practical supports for Vietnamese womenin the fields of education, female entrepreneurs, multicultural Vietnamese - Korean families, etc. Most recently, the Korean Government signed a cooperation agreement with UNWomen in Vietnam about a grant of $ 300,000 for the women affected by drought and salinity in Mekong Delta. Korean Ambassador to Vietnam, Mr. Lee Hyuk, said that the Government of Korea will continue to support Vietnam in coping with climate change, sharing its experience and knowledge on environment and climate sustainability policies.
