International Forum on Women, Peace and Development to be held by the Vietnam Women’s Union

The Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU) with the support by the UN Women Vietnam will organize the “International Forum on Women, Peace and Development” from October 6th-7th, 2015 at the Center for Women and Development, Hanoi, Vietnam on the occasion of 85th anniversary of the Union’s foundation, 70th anniversary of the UN, 70th anniversary of the Women’s International Democratic Federation, and the review of the implementation of the Beijing Declaration (Beijing + 20) and the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

The Forum is to create a venue for sharing information, initiatives and best practices in women's movements,enhancing the understanding, solidarity, friendship and cooperation among women in the world while heading towards the common goals of "Equality, Development and Peace" set forth at the Fourth World Conference o­n Women in Beijing, and to help introduce to international friends the country, people, and women of Vietnam.

The main agenda consists of 3 sessions.The Plenaryis to review the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, lessons learned by nations during this process, and the gender aspects of the post-2015 development agenda.The Workshop “Women, Peace and Security”shall highlight both traditional and non-traditional security challenges facing women and women’s role in peace building and keeping, especially in the building of a culture of peace – a culture recognizing women’s contribution and respecting women’s rights.The Workshop “Women and Development”shall study the policies and initiatives to ensure women’s equal and efficient participation in all aspects of life, from social to economic and political activities.

The Forum shall adopt a joint statement to express the commitments of cooperation and concerted efforts among women nationally, regionally and internationally towards “Equality, Development and Peace”.

Attending the forum shall be expectedly more than 100 international and Vietnamese participants including leaders of the Party and the State of Vietnam, representatives of ministries, international and local organizations related to women and development, the academics, the Vietnam Women’s Union at both the central and provincial levels, UN agencies, and foreign diplomatic missions in Vietnam.

As side activities, a tour of the Vietnam Women’s Museum and a field visit to a rural micro-credit project shall be organized to help the international delegates learn more about the women’s movement in Vietnam and the historical role played by the Vietnam Women’s Union.
