20/11/2006
Saigon Pesticides Company is set to sign a sponsorship deal with Ho Chi Minh City’s cycling federation Saturday to support the local women’s cycling team.

The value of the contract has not been revealed but it will reportedly cover training equipment, salaries, bonuses, and other costs like food allowances during competition for three years for the squad of six cyclists and a coach.

Earlier, each member was getting a monthly stipend of VND2 million (US$125) which was hardly sufficient for food, sun cream, and other essential needs.

“This is happy news for us,” said Phan Quy Bach, head of cycling at the HCMC sports department. “It will help the athletes and the federation.”

Saigon Pesticides Company has a long association with cycling and sponsors a strong men’s cycling team which has won scores of medals.
