Global Vietnamese Pageant 2007 starts

VietNamNet Bridge - The 2007 Global Vietnamese Pageant will take place at the Vinpearl Resort in Khanh Hoa Province’s coastal city of Nha Trang from August 22 to September 2, according to the organizing board at a press conference in Ho Chi Minh City on August 20.

Having triumphed over 2,000 entrants in the regional rounds, around 40 young women at home and winners of beauty contests abroad will spend twelve days in and around the resort o­n Tre Island, just offshore from Nha Trang.

Though every contestant is vying for the main title, there are also the Miss Photo, Miss Sea, and Miss Tourism titles at stake.


The compulsory categories will be ao dai (Vietnamese traditional dress), swimsuit and casual wear. The judges of the contest will whittle the contestants down to the top five for the climax o­n September 2, to be broadcast live o­n Vietnam TV channels including VTV3 and VTV4.


The Miss Global Vietnamese prize is US$20,000 and a trip at home or abroad; the runner-up will get US$8,000, and third place will take home US$5,000. There are also US$1,000 prizes for the winners of the Miss Photo, Miss Tourism and Miss Sea titles.

 Nguyen Thi Huong Giang, the o­nly Vietnamese contestant from the Czech Republic, returned home for the 2007 Global Vietnamese Pageant.                                                                                         


The beauty has arrived in Ha Noi to offer US$1,000 from her family and EUR 700 that she won in the beauty pageant in Berlin to Agent Orange victims and disadvantaged people of the typhoon Pabuk.


Huong Giang, 22, a student at the Faculty of Law at Prague, was the first runner-up of the Miss Vietnam in Berlin 2007 beauty pageant.
