Get-together of women from Dak Lak province of Vietnam and four southern provinces of Laos

On July 13th, 2016, in Dak Lak, Vietnam, a workshop was organized on the “Cooperation agreement for peace and development from 2012 to 2017” which was signed between the Dak Lak Women's Union (WU) and four Lao Provincial WUs of Attapu, Sekong, Salavan, and Champasak. The workshop was attended by more than 70 Vietnamese and Lao delegates.

By implementing the agreement, the provincial WUs of the two countries have been active in giving advice to the local authorities o­n promoting women cadres, contributing to the increased representation of women leaders and managers. Specifically, the number of female heads or deputy heads of departments have been increased to 16 for Attapeu, 14 for Sekong 14, 15 for Champasak, 13 for Saravane and 21 for Dak Lak.

Besides, the WUs have also implemented practical activities to support women victimized by traffickers. Saravane WU has assisted 32 Vietnamese trafficked women to return home. Champasak WU has supported 06 Lao victims(03 men and 03 women) trafficked to Malaysia, and 11 women trafficked to Thailand (providing vocational training for 9 women and teacher training for the other 02, who have been graduated and got teaching jobs). Dak Lak WU has been able to bring back 21 trafficked women and girls.

While implementing the agreement, the WUs have organized many friendship visits and shared information about the economic and political situation and women’s life in respective province.

At the workshop, 5 provincial Women’s Unions have also shared good experience o­n gender mainstreaming in policy implementation, WU’s role in advising the Party and the local authorities to promulgate mechanisms and policies for women’s development, building strong WU organization, and supporting women’s economic development and building of happy and sustainable families.

At the workshop, Dak Lak WU presented the 4 Lao Provincial WUs with 02 sets of computers each.

The Lao WU delegates also had a meeting with the Dak Lak Provincial Party Committee and enjoyed scenic spots in the province./.
