Fostering cooperation between WB and VWU

To continue fostering the cooperation between the Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU) and the World Bank (WB) in Vietnam in the coming time.

 

On June 30, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, VWU President had a meeting with and awarded the VWU’s Merit Medal “For the development of Vietnamese women” to Ms. Victoria Kwakwa, former WB Country Director for Vietnam as well as congratulated her o­n her new position as WB East Asia and Pacific Regional Vice President.

  

On behalf of the VWU and women in the whole country, VWU President Nguyen Thi Thu Ha expressed her thanks to Ms. Victoria Kwakwa for her contributions to the development of Vietnamese women over the past years. Briefing about the VWU’s key activities in the coming time, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Ha said that the VWU would continue focusing o­n socialoversight and consultation, policy fomulation and economic empowerment for women, supporting women in climate change adaptation and response, enhancing women’s role in food safety to name a few. She also shared the VWU’s idea to establish Women’s Saving Bank. The VWU President expected that Ms. Victoria Kwakwa, in her new capacity would continue her support for Vietnamese women and the VWU’s activities.

Affirming her willingness to continue fostering the cooperation between the WB and the VWU, Ms. Victoria Kwakwa stressed that the two sides would work together to enhance women’s roles in food safety and their capacity in climate change adaptation and response in the coming time.
