Foreigners bestowed medals of honor for HIV/AIDS work

Two Americans in Ho Chi Minh City were bestowed medals at a ceremony on Saturday recognizing them as citizens of honor for their contributions to the city’s public health prevention programs.

Nancy Fee, coordinator of joint United Nations program o­n HIV/AIDS prevention in HCMC, and Patrick Chong, deputy director of project Disease Prevention Control, and were awarded the Ho Chi Minh City Medals for their efforts in preventing and fighting HIV/AIDS.


Arriving in Vietnam in 2003, Nancy Fee participated in the compilation of a national strategy o­n HIV/AIDS control for 2005-2010.


In 2005, she was also bestowed the most valuable award - Medal for the Advancement of Vietnamese Women – from Vietnam’s Women Union.


Patrick’s Disease Prevention and Control project has been devoted to the treatment and care of HV/AIDS patients in HCMC, and has contributed greatly to the cause.


Vietnam
wishes to express its deepest gratitude to the two Americans for their contributions, an official in HCMC said.
