For the development and advancement of women

“Good at State affairs and good at household affairs,” this has been a movement of Vietnamese women and at the same time a praise of the society reserved for the Vietnamese women.

Inheriting the traditions of the two Trung sisters and Heroine Trieu amongst many other heroines, Vietnamese women took part in fighting against foreign aggressors and now when the country is at peace, they work diligently and build happy families.

Uncle Ho once said the homeland of Vietnam is built more beautiful by the efforts of Vietnamese women, both old and young.

Appreciating the role of women in the revolutionary cause, since its early days, the Communist Party of Vietnam issued a resolution on women mobilisation work and defined that women liberation is a component part of the Vietnam’s revolution.

Under the glorious flag of the Party, different generations of Vietnamese women have joined the nation in the long-march for national salvation, overcoming great difficulties and making great sacrifices in the fight for independence, freedom and national reunification.

The image of Vietnamese women shouldering most of the work in the rear to encourage their husbands and sons to go to the front line and the image of southern women taking the lead in political struggles which frightened the enemy are still imprinted in the minds of Vietnamese people. They have built an impression of patriotism, courage and love for the people.

Vietnamese women are deserved to the words “Heroic, undaunted, loyal and grateful and capable.”

After 20 years of implementing the renovation initiated and led by the Party, the great recorded achievements have brought about favourable conditions for women to develop their talents to fulfill successfully their role as citizens in society and wives and mothers at home.

In fact, women have become an important part of the labour force, being present in all social sectors. There are many talented women in various sectors. They are the country’s pride.

Together with the development of Vietnamese women’s movement, the Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU) has launched different revolutionary movements through different historical periods to encourage their members to make great efforts to build the country and at the same time, the union has also paid great attention to protecting the legitimate rights and interests of their members.

During the past years, the union has make proposals to the Party and State to issue policies to help develop the potentials of women an work out plans of action for the advancement of women.

The VWU has become a close friend and a reliable mainstay of women throughout the country.
In the renovation process, women liberation means creating conditions for women to overcome difficulties of their gender to contribute effectively to national development. Gender equality needs to be dealt with right at the policy-issuing step to the handling of everyday work at different levels, sectors and localities. Discrimination towards women must be strictly dealt with.

The country is still poor. The people’s living standards have been improved. However, there are still many poor families, especially in remote, mountainous areas. In these places, women still have to shoulder many burdens. These difficulties have hindered women from approaching social advances. Unemployment, drugs, prostitution, family violence and the trafficking of women and children have been significant issues which affect the advancement of women.

These requires the VWU to make greater efforts. More movements should be launched to attract the participation of women and encourage them to study, work diligently, build happy families and help each other fight poverty.

The VWU should also make proposals to the Party and State for issuing policies to help develop the role of women in national industrialisation and modernisation.

Under the leadership of the Party, administration at different levels, sectors and mass organisations should better understand women’s mobilisation work and strictly implement the Party’s decision and the State policies and laws relating to women and children, helping them to make more efforts to affirm their roles in families and in the society, contributing to realising the targets of “wealthy people, strong country, just, democratic and civilised society.”
