Five Vietnamese female scientists win L'Oreal-UNESCO awards

PANO - Five Vietnamese female scientists were granted the 2017 L'Oreal-UNESCO awards at a ceremony in Hanoi on January 12.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Hoai, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine under the Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy; and Dr. Tran Thi Ngoc Dung, head of the Department for Environmentally Friendly Technology of the Institute of Environment Technology under the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, won the L'Oreal-UNESCO Award for Women in Science. The organizing panel also presented scholarship to three outstanding female scientists in 2017.

The awardees have made contributions to the community health by seeking new medical materials for treatment of cancer and Alzheimer diseases, and studying new materials to produce smart silicon applicable for implanting and fire-proof polymer nanocomposite used in construction and transport.

Launched in 1998, the L'Oreal-UNESCO Award for Women in Science aims to recognizing women in science and supporting scientific vocations. Since its inception in Vietnam, the award has honored 18 outstanding female scientists.
