Final Review Meeting of the project “Improving VWU’s capacity and developing models to support rural women to grow aquatic products”

The final review meeting of the 2nd phase project “Improving VWU’s capacity and developing models to support rural women to grow aquatic products” was recently organized at the Head office of VWU.

Funded by Cordaid – The Netherlands, the project aims to improve the living conditions of poor women in rural areas and to enhance their position by the development of aquaculture in VAC model (ecological balance model which comprises gardening, fish pond and animal raising).

 

The 1st phase of the project was implemented in 8 communes in Nam Dinh and Vinh Phuc provinces and then replicated in the 2nd phase in another 16 communes in Ha Tay, Hai Duong, Thai Binh and Bac Ninh provinces.

 

Since the project was started, 40 trainers have been trained, 16 training classes o­n aquatic product growing in VAC model, enterprise starting and knowledge o­n gender have been organized with the participation of 480 women. In addition to this, through the project, 16 VAC clubs have been set up, attracting the participation of 500 women. The clubs are well-equipped with equipments and books and self-funded to maintain their scheduled activities. Information network o­n aquatic product growing services has been initially set up among provinces.

 

With the project’s initial achievements, participants at the Meeting expressed their hope to receive further support from the donors and VWU at all levels, especially the facilitation of local authorities to maintain and improve the activities of VAC models.
