Development of project “Prevention of trafficking in women and children”

On 26 April, In HaNoi, the Vietnam Women’s Union in coordination with the International Labor Organization (ILO) started the Project to Combat Trafficking in Children and Women at community level in Vietnam with the National Stakeholder Ownership Execise Workshop.

The Project to Combat Trafficking in Children and Women at community level in Vietnamowned by the Vietnam Women’s Union was approved by the Prime Minister o­n the 4th April 2005, to be implemented by the Vietnam Women’s Union in the period of April 2005 to July 2006 in 3 provinces of Tay Ninh, Hau Giang and Can Tho in support to the eradication of child labor exploitation, especially trafficking in women and children in the country and across the border.

 

With the funding from Japanese Government, through the UN Fund for Human Security, all project activities will focus o­n improving awareness of children and young women in the high- risk areas by approaching credit loans, vocational training and job creation for income generation ...

 

The Project will strengthen the capacity for related organizations, share information, directly support women, children and families in 13 communes of project sites.

 

The National Stakeholder Ownership ExeciseWorkshop introduced the comprehensive report o­n the situation of trafficking in women and children; the coordinating mechanism among project partners; the criteria to select the project sites, causes of this problem in project sites and concrete recommendations to increase participation of relating agencies in prevention of trafficking in women and children... 

 

The selected communes are the places where many people have left for the big cities or abroad that attractive to many labors; the rate and number of poor households are high; many people lack of land for production and rely o­n seasonal work.
