Dang Thuy Tram’s Diary Published in Romanian

The diary contains the thoughts and feelings of Dang Thuy Tram, an army doctor who served at a military hospital in central Quang Ngai province in Vietnam from 1967-1970. She was killed by US troops in June 1970 at the age of 27.

The former Romanian Ambassador to Viet Nam Constantin Lupeanu, who translated Ho Chi Minh’s Nhat Ki Trong Tu (Diary written in prison), provided support to Viet Nam’s translator Pham Viet Dao who spent 120 days working o­n the book now published by the World Publishing House.

The publication of her diaries entitled “Diaries of Dang Thuy Tram” attracted attention not o­nly in Viet Nam but international acclaim as well.

With 34,000 copies sold, the diary has become Viet Nam’s best seller in the past 10 years, according to an official from the HCM City Book Distribution Company.

The diary has already traveled the world in its previous English translation by famous US writer Lady Borton, author of ‘After Sorrow’.

Japanese Professor Odaka Tai has requested permission to translate the diary into Japanese. The diary has already been translated into French.

The Los Angles Times last week carried an article praising Dang Thuy Tram’s diary, considering it the “Vietnamese Diary of Anne Frank,” said an article by writer Richard C. Paddock.

On September 20, 2005, Hong Kong’s Wenhui newspaper published an article introducing local readers to the book as well.
